What You Need to Know for a Successful Visit
We value all of our visitors and understand how the process of planning a group’s itinerary can be complicated and overwhelming. The information below is intended to help ensure your group’s visit to Oak Alley is easy and effortless and that everyone leaves with an enjoyable and memorable experience.

    - If you purchased your admissions online, you must arrive 30 minutes prior to selected time.
- Please allow at least 2 hours for visit to explore the historic site and exhibits.
- Your experience begins once you check in your advance reservation or purchase your admission at the Ticket Booth. Visits of the historic site are self paced including all exhibits except for the mansion ( the guided portion of the “Big House” begins approximately every 15 minutes but may vary on some days) throughout the day. The conversation series at the Slavery exhibit are at 10:30 am, 12pm, 2pm and 3pm (daily availability varies and is subject to change).
- Be prepared for walking throughout the historic grounds. It is recommended that visitors with mobility difficulties come prepared with their own assistive devices (i.e. wheelchairs, walkers).
- Photography and recording is permitted on the historic site and in exhibits with one exception. To protect the objects in the mansion and the safety of other visitors, photography and recording is not allowed inside this exhibit. We apologize for the restriction. Indoor photography is disruptive to operations, may damage the objects [artifacts/exhibits] and restricts access to entrances/exits, doorways, and high traffic areas. We continue to encourage photography outside of the mansion and throughout the grounds of Oak Alley Plantation.
- Photography taken for advertisements or other commercial purposes is not allowed without written permission.
- Baby strollers are allowed on the grounds and in all exhibits with the exception of the “Big House” exhibit. Our staff will show you where to store them during your visit inside the exhibit.
- Most exhibits are handicapped accessible. Basic wheelchairs and motorized wheelchairs are permitted, but would not be accessible on the second floor of the ‘Big House’ exhibit. For guests unable to climb the 22 stairs, a video tour is available in the media room. Please note that due to limited seating, we ask this be reserved for guests who are unable to make it to the second floor.
- Electronic devices must be turned off and cell phones muted while in “Big House” exhibit.
- As a courtesy to fellow visitors, parents of active or restless children are asked to take turns visiting the “Big House” exhibit.

- Restaurant located adjacent to the historic site.
- Picnics are not permitted on the historic grounds but picnic tables are available on the grounds adjacent to the parking lot. Large groups wanting dining options should contact the sales department.
