Bill of Sale (R5.222)

Transaction Date:
4/11/1811
Summary of transaction:
The document is badly damaged and difficult to read. From what is able to be gathered, the document is a bill of sale for an enslaved woman named Marthe (age 22). She is being sold from a man possibly by the name of Eugene Lassance to Jacques Etienne Roman and Jean Soulié. Marthe is said to have been born in what appears to be the village of L'Anse à Veau on the island of Saint-Domingo. She was brought to America by the vendor. The sale is made for 650 piasters.
