With sprawling lawns and open spaces, Oak Alley Plantation’s historic grounds provide further opportunity to interpret the complex history of this National Historic Landmark.
With that in mind, the current Stewart Gardens on the east side of the mansion and the lawn on the west side, will be undergoing archaeological exploration and restoration through December 2018. The Stewart gardens will be restored to reflect Mrs. Stewart’s 1930s garden, while the west lawn will be transformed into a new Roman garden dedicated to period plantings of the 1830s - 1860s.
In order to allow the time needed to finish this important preservation project , we regret that Oak Alley’s 43rd Annual Christmas Bonfire Party will have to be cancelled this year.
We appreciate your understanding and look forward sharing with you the completion of the plantation gardens. Exciting times ahead as we begin to implement our masterplan.
